The Technical High School “G. Sommeiller” and the Scientific High School “Galileo Ferraris” high school in Turin are housed in a historic building complex, which is subject to “declaration of interest under Legislative Decree No. 42 of January 22, 2004 and is owned by the Metropolitan City of Turin. It was built in the early 1930s and completed in the 1950s.

The building consists of two bodies built at different times, to which is added the construction of four external emergency staircases. The first body consists of four structurally joined blocks named: block A, B, C, D. The second body, consisting of a single block, is named E.

The planned interventions include:

  • static adjustment and seismic improvement of the complex;
  • local anti-slaughter safety interventions;
  • adaptation of fire regulations;
  • adjustment of electrical and special systems;
  • restoration of architectural elements subject to adjustments;
  • removal and disposal of FAV elements.

Work will be carried out by means of local ringrossi of masonry males, using the “scuci e cuci” method; plating of masonry with application of plaster with FRP nets; reinforcement with carbon fiber on reinforced concrete beams.

The electrical systems will be dismantled and rebuilt to enable the interventions in the first point, as well as to obtain certifications useful for fire prevention.

The facility in its entirety accommodates about 2,500 users, including students, faculty and school staff. The usable area is about 21,000 square meters.
