Redevelopment of existing supply pipelines and enhancement capacity transport of the aqueduct
Customer: S.A.S.I. S.p.a.
Years: 2022-2023 – The EIA procedure concluded positively
2022- technical and economic feasibility design for contract
Activities: Environmental Impact Study of Lots 1, 2, 3 (National Environmental Impact Assessment Procedure); Noise impact study of the construction and operational phases; Technical-Economic Feasibility Project of Lot 2 for tender
Project cost: 38,800,000 (Relative to the entire intervention subjected to Environmental Impact Assessment)
Datas: 37, 6 km of pipelines divided into 3 lots. 7 aerial crossings with tube bridge, 1 water purification plant, 1 disconnection tank.
The intervention is part of the reorganization of water resources managed by SASI, which plans to enhance the transport capacity of the Acquedotto Verde, but, at the same time, to increase the resilience of the entire distribution network, and in particular the one that connects Fara San Martino to Scerni, also thanks to the provision of a new drinking water treatment plant.
The project, financed by the PNRR, involves the construction of approximately 37.6 km of pipelines divided into 3 functional strands that allow the following connections:
- SECTION 1: Fara-Casoli pipeline;
- SECTION 2: Casoli-Scerni pipeline;
- SECTION 3: Casoli-Roccascalegna pipeline.
Additional works consist of the construction of a potabilizer, a disconnection tank and 7 pipe bridges.
An Environmental Impact Study has been prepared by Ai Engineering for unified national Environmental Impact Assessment procedure for all 3 project lots. From an environmental point of view, the context of intervention is of particular sensitivity due to the presence of the Majella Park and numerous Natura 2000 sites. To ensure the timeframe dictated by the PNRR, the EIA procedure was completed in a very short time, allowing the acquisition of the Environmental Compatibility Decree for the purposes of the subsequent construction phases.
Ai Engineering also designed the entire section 2 consisting of over 24 km of DN 400 cast iron pipeline, affecting 6 municipalities in the province of Chieti and 4 main water bodies (Sangro River, Appello Stream, Rio Secco and Osento River). The aqueduct serves more than 180,000 residents and floaters.
One of the main works is the overhead crossing of the Sangro River at Piane d’Archi, 270 m long with 5 spans of 53.75 m.
