Description of works
The Tirana water network upgrading intervention is part of the development assistance interventions planned by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Albania.
The works carried out and tested were divided into two parts:
- Bovilla Lake adduction line – Purification plant (integration);
- City adduction bypass (replacement).
The existing aqueduct line is fed by Bovilla Lake and transfers the water resource to the Potabilization Plant that feeds the City of Tirana.
The works for doubling the Bovilla adduction line included the following works, with a total plan development of 10.1km:
- laying of cast-iron DN1200 anti-spill pipeline for a plan development of 240m, Laying of steel DN1200 pipeline for a plan development of 100m, Laying of cast-iron DN900 anti-spill pipeline for a plan development of 2800m, Laying of cast-iron DN900 non-anti-spill pipeline for a plan development of 6840m, Laying of steel DN900 pipeline for overhead crossings with a plan development of 120m;
- no.2 sumps, upstream and downstream, for flow control and regulation with meter and spindle valve;
- no. 9 discharge manholes, n.°13 discharge manholes and n.°4 sectioning manholes;
- no. 1 sectioning well with drain, vent and hydrovalve for water hammer overpressure control:
- the maximum flow rate transferred under maximum reservoir conditions can reach up to about 2000 l/s.
